Gillard and Media Inquiry – More like Malaysia Everyday

Gillard looks more like Najib Razak every day

Step by step, the Gillard Government is becoming more and more like the UMNO Government in Malaysia. The issue now is control over media. Never mind what Senator Conroy said the inquiry is about – it is about shutting down criticism over the Gillard Government.

See this interview with Bob Brown, PM of Australia – at least he can be credited with honesty in this case. He said it is about controlling the Murdoch Press.

I dont like the Murdoch press myself – things like The Sun paper in the UK may be a lot of fun when you are young or drunk (or both) but it is appalling in all other respects. The way they (News of the World and Murdoch Press) go about getting leads and breaching privacy of the most vulnerable, is really disgraceful. There is no reason however, to think what happened in the UK is also a problem for Australia.

The only problem with the press in Australia is with Julia Gillard and Bob Brown, the Prime Minister of Australia. They dont want criticism. They want to shut down or control their critics. That is very Malaysian. Gillard and Najib Razak are looking more and more alike every day.

Gillard inching closer to Najib Razak

Julia Gillard‘s telephone call to John Hartigan to spike a story by Glen Milne of The Australian, brings her government ever closer to the style of the UMNO Government. Both face certain doom and are living on borrowed time.

See this piece.

The point of the story was her judgment of people around her. Her involvement with Bruce Wilson, someone convicted of embezzlement of union funds, ought to speak volumes of her ongoing support for Craig Thomson. Thomson’s position as one of the 76 (together with the monkeys aka independents) no doubt is the bigger dimension here but the bottom line is her judgment.

Julia Gillard has as the sort of baggage Najib Razak is probably familiar with. Scorpenes submarine and Altantuya Shaaribuu are of much darker varieties to taint Najib Razak but Bruce Wilson and Craig Thomson, with their union rubbish, smell almost as bad.

Certainly, calling newspaper editors to control what the public reads, is a stench no Australian Prime Minister should share with a Malaysian regime.

Ambiga Sreenevasan stares down sorry UMNO

I was just catching up on Malaysian news this morning (given I am relatively free now) – on 9 July a big rally is planned for free and fair elections, by a movement known as “BERSIH” (Coalition for Free and Fair Elections).

The main champion for this is Ambiga Sreenevasan, an ex Skrine lawyer who now has her own firm. She was the one who received the US Secretary of State‘s Award for International Women of Courage Awards presented by Hillary Clinton. She is a much respected lawyer in Malaysia.

As usual, PERKASA is making very bad noises to threaten the rally. They have organised their own march against the rally. As usual, the government warned against the BERSIH rally but police has given permit for the PERKASA march – usual rubbish by Malaysian police and government.

It doesn’t require someone of Ambiga’s stature to show up the intellectual and moral pigmies who make up UMNO, the ruling Coalition that is BN and the hangers on who line their own pockets in keeping these morons and bandits in power.

But when she does appear on the scene, the UMNO and BN look downright pathetic.

Its henchmen in PERKASA sound even more stupid and oafish, the sort of fools who are dangerous for thinking they aren’t.

I am thrilled with the efforts of Ambiga and those who stand with her, and BERSIH. I hope my friends who will be in Malaysia on 9 July, take caution but be courageous and stand against the folly, thievery and moral contempt that UMNO and BN wallow in.

That a person like Ambiga should stare down the cretins in UMNO will be particularly riling.

In this brave, intelligent and honourable woman is an amalgam of elements twerps like Ibrahim Ali and others in his pack cannot stand, and certainly do not expect to be a formidable foe.

She is an Indian, a woman and a lawyer. Together, these elements embody the definition of a nemesis for the brand of hackneyed form of bigotry which has been tiresome and should have been gotten rid off with the C4 their master is wont to resort to.

Most of us are sick of them and would sooner spit them out and flush them out of our lives altogether. My disdain for their ilk is such that when I cease to loathe them I would safely claim victory in my personal strife in my journey as a Christian. It would be a miracle of Lazarus proportions for me to cease despising this lot with utter abomination. They are my cross.

For now, I am quietly enjoying the moment when someone like Ambiga Sreenevasan quietly and with dignity, give these gnats the flick.

Gillard and Bowen dealing with Ogres and Thieves from Malaysia

The deal being negotiated between Australia and Malaysia to process asylum seekers, is of considerable current interest. Last night we caught parts of the SBS Dateline program, with a story titled “Welcome to Malaysia”.

It really brought back very interesting memories.

For a start, we are reminded of how bloody minded ordinary Malaysians entrusted with a little bit of authority, can turn out to be. RELA officers decked out in military styled uniform are given free rein to terrorise ordinary man on the street. They’d pound on the door of citizens in the middle of the night, demanding to see your passport. They’d make you squat on walkways before hauling truckloads back to their headquarters for a long night of abuse.

In my past life, I have sat in the office of a police chief and hear him say to his subordinates “let them die”, referring to suspects being rounded up for anything you can imagine. Anyone who is an easy target – drug addicts, petty criminals and illegal immigrants – are easy game to these officers, be they police of militia personnel like RELA thugs. They’d detain, extort, abuse and exert their puny warden mentality to its full extent.

The drug addicts, petty criminals and illegal immigrants are not human beings in the eyes of these twerps. To these cowards and bullies, the drug addicts, petty criminals and illegal immigrants are vermin with money to steal from. If they are female, sexual crimes commonly follow. I have seen RELA personnel rounding these people up like they are herds of cattle.

Theresa recoiled when scenes of food being served came up. The illegal immigrants, squatting in the barb wired compounds, are served dirty rice and slivers of meats caked with grime, on trays which have never been washed. A detainee held up a tray to the camera and scraped off filthy grime and said the food was foul and stank.

The man tasked with looking after the illegal immigrant issue knew absolutely nothing. He looked and sounded exactly like your typical UMNO idiot who managed to become a deputy minister because those who appointed him are equally stupid. People like them abuse the ordinary people, steal from them, caused the most horrendous hardship on so many without batting an eyelid and then go to the mosque to pray and complain about opposition politicians committing sexual indiscretions.

The story on SBS Dateline certainly brought back memories, and reminded me why we left Malaysia. What that program showed was only a tip of the iceberg and it affected not just the less fortunate people. The mentality, attitude and value system of the powers that be cause unfortunate effect which was different to what the program showed, only in its degree and intensity. Why on earth is Julia Gillard and Chris Bowen even talking to this mob?

Stir Away RPK.

I’m still trying to work out this RPK rubbish.

If I said you to you that you were at a brothel, you’d have to either deny or admit to it. My opinion of you should not bear on whether I would say this to you, if your being at a brothel was a fact witnessed by me.

If I said to you that someone said to me he saw you at a brothel, your options would be better. You could still deny it or admit it. Or, you could ask me who was that someone who told you. On my part however, I would not have mentioned to you what that person said to me unless I had an element of doubt about you. My opinion of you becomes relevant in that sense.

If we then push this out even further and I were to say to you, that I was told someone had credible information that you were at a brothel, I’d really have to have a lot of doubt about you, before I would even raise the matter with you. My opinion of you would be most relevant in this context.

Therein lies the problem with Raja Petra and his alleged U-turn and stories about his “selling out” and becoming a Najib supporter.

Raja Petra made a statutory declaration in 2008 based not on what he saw. He did not see Rosmah Mansor at the jungle near Shah Alam on that fateful night in 2006. Neither was he told by someone who alleged Rosmah was there. That wretched Statutory Declaration was based on what someone (Nik Azmi Nik Daud) told him someone else (Lt Kol Azmi Zainal Abidin) had “credible information” on – that Rosmah Mansor was at the C4 site.

I find it incredulous that Raja Petra, for all his apparent wily nous, could doubt Rosmah ‘s presence at the site Altantuya was murdered (as he said in his infamous TV3 interview) yet declare a statement which is based on what someone told him someone else had credible information on. Any reasonable person would have deemed it necessary to verify the matter by either sighting the report which allegedly set out the account of Rosmah’s presence, or at the very least, speaking to the person (Lt Kol Azmi Zainal Abidin) who had allegedly authored that report.

It just does not make sense. Unless of course, the whole saga is in turn, just another piece in a prolonged game of chess and it did not matter if a move made sense at a particular point in time, as long as it sets in motion a series of moves to lead to a desired outcome.

Maybe he did think Rosmah was indeed present at the murder scene.

Maybe there were elements to the murder and its surrounding circumstances which he wanted to train the spotlight on, and which were hitherto neglected for one reason or another. What might these be?

  • That the records of Altantuya and her friends were expunged from immigration database?
  • That Najib had occasion to meet with Altantuya in a number of circumstances and had sexual liaison with her?
  • That there were elements of DCNS Scorpene submarine deals which bore Najib’s fingerprints all over some alleged kickback money?
  • That the Malaysian ambassador to Mongolia had stolen evidence from Altantuya’s family and given these to the Malaysian police under the custody of Abdul Gani Patail and/or ex IGP Musa Hassan?
  • That records of military personnel and armaments suggest Najib provided the green light to employ these resources at the time of the murder?
  • To train the spotlight on PI Bala’s statutory declarations again?

Were the manoeuvres to prevent Najib’s ascension and push Ku Li up instead, as defined as they were said to be? Or was it such a given that Najib was to succeed Badawi that stories of these Machiavellian moves were transparently non-sensical?

Certainly the question of whether a military intelligence officer did or did not author a report suggesting Rosmah’s presence at the murder scene, has little impact on the other questions which have always caused Najib’s role to be anything other than an outright falsehood. If Raja Petra’s intention is to have the public re-examine all these other issues all over again, he certainly has a strange way of getting to this. Maybe it is all serendipitous and all he wanted to do was to stir crap again. That he is a master at this there is little doubt.  Certainly the stench has hit cyber waves again.

If this however, is what it takes to flush crap out like UMNO and its leaders of the system, stir away RPK.

NUS and Uni Malaya

The National University of Singapore was once University Malaya. It now ranks No. 4 in Asia and No. 34 in the world. University Malaya on the other hand is buried somewhere deep under the pile. Many of its graduates can’t even speak English properly. So who had it right? UMNO and the pro-Malay policies will only continue to go down the gurgler.
