Scruffy!

I often call him “Oi”. Sometimes he’s “little buddy”. When Kiddo and I talk about him, he’s “Little Black Jedi“, or LBJ. Scruffy has become a little man about the house. He certainly spends more time in the house than any one of us. He’s got 2-3 spots in the house which are his favourites, and have become sort of his spots.

He likes both corners of our old couch in front of the TV, right on top of the headrest. He is often perched up there in either of the spots, sleeping in the groove between the back board and the back cushion. Lately, he has also taken up a spot on the leather couch in the lounge, overlooking the main windows into the park across the street where we take him when it’s not raining. Tress thinks he is pining for the park visits when he does that, especially when he sees other dogs there.

At night, he wont go to the room to sleep as long as one of us are in the lounge or TV area. He’d sleep on the old couch, but sprawled across one of the seats. When the last of us (usually me) gets up to go to bed, he’d wake up and trot off to one of our rooms. Currently he appears to be avoiding kiddo’s room. We think it’s the VCE mess he’s avoiding.

Once in the room – or at least with Tress and I – he’d wait on the floor for a few minutes before hopping onto the bed. He wants to settle down right next to us but we usually make him sleep just at the end of the bed, near our feet. He’d settle for that more than in his own bed on the floor. Experts tell us Schnoodles are like that. They just want to be near their humans, as much (and as near) as possible. Sometimes when all 3 of us are watching TV, he’d curl up next to one of us on the couch, usually on the long end of the chaise. He’s become an honorary fourth member of the family.

Everyone’s In London

I hopped onto a cardio machine this morning, and turned on the attached television screen. The set on the Today Show looked a little different. Also, Ben Fordham who was the sports presenter was decked out more formally than I was expecting, with a red tie to boot. I soon realised they were in London – the whole team. Karl, Lisa and gang are all there. I then recall Ross and John of 3AW saying everyone’s there now.

To confirm views that William and Kate are different to their predecessors, William was soon seen outside Clarence House, shaking hands with onlookers. It must have been about 10.30pm then and the prince was in an open neck shirt, khakis and sweater, greeting and talking to ordinary people lining up outside the royals’ residence. Nice touch. Certainly it bolstered the image of William being like Diana, the people’s royal personality.

The wedding program starts around 5pm Aussie time and I think many have teed up parties to watch it. The actual thing is due to start around 8.30pm – prime time Aussie TV slot – and they are due to appear on the balcony around 10.30pm. On a Friday night, only a Man United game can beat that. So guess what I’ll be doing for 2 x 20min slots tonight…

End days – yet again.

The images of the quake and tsunami in Japan have been transfixing. Last night I returned from a church meeting to catch up with news on TV and the pictures were just shocking. True to form, there is already a seminar lined up to talk about the prophecies in places like Joel 3 and the end days. As surely as day follows night, end time seminars almost always follow a series of earthquakes. The close occurrences between the Christchurch and Sendai earthquakes almost guarantee a talk of end times to follow. Yet, no one ever address the issues of the sun and moon darkening or the stars stop twinkling (Joel 3:15). We really ought to just accept that no one will know whether the last days are upon us. All we need to do – and that is already a big task – is to be faithful to God and seek Him and obey Him. Better spend time reading and studying His word than chasing signs of the end days.
