About a couple of weeks ago our home desktop PC died. It was about 6 years old. I wonder if PC has the equivalent of a dog-age. A dog’s age is generally taken to be equivalent to 7 times that of a human being. Our scruffy will be turning 1 in a couple of weeks. In human terms he is turning 7 years old soon. I wonder if a 6 year old PC is equivalent to … what … 60-year old.
I have taken the plunge and enrolled to do a part time Grad Dip at the BCV (Bible College of Victoria). Large chunks of it (at least for the first year or so) will be done by distance learning so I needed a PC. Apart from kiddo’s laptop, the only other functioning machine at home is a Dell net book which is a bit hard to do any proper work on.
So last weekend we got out and I got a spanking new laptop from the local Dick Smith’s. After toying with the idea of getting a Mac Book I got practical (and cheap) and plonked instead for a Windows machine. A number of people had said anyway that Windows 7 is pretty good and suits normal everyday work. Mac Book is more chic and fun I suppose, but the adjustments and (probably) application software changeovers would be a bit of a pain. So the romantic idea of getting a Mac was parked aside for a while and a clunky old Toshiba now sits on my study desk. If it last 6 years I’d be rapt.
