Tress’ brother and his family are staying with us. They’re on a very short holiday visit from Malaysia.
It has been great having them. The 2 kids, aged 6 and 4, have been such a blessing to have around.
The older one, a girl, is chatty and inquisitive and very smart. She catches on to stuff really quickly and will have a go at anything. She speaks her mind but is courteous and receptive with what you say. In other words, an absolute pleasure of a gem.
Megan’s little brother is shy and reserved. He is also much less adventurous. We took a drive to Geelong and Torquay yesterday with another family (Alex and Li Har). At a beach in Torquay, the kids all stripped down and jumped in except Zack, Megan’s little brother. He didn’t like getting wet or having sand in his clothes. In fact he stayed well away from the shoreline.
What this little guy is really into is cars. He has a whole collection of toy sports cars. He brought a few with him and the other day, he briefed me on the merits of a good set of tyres. I tried to find him a model of a good old Aussie Ute but Big W didn’t have any! He ended up with a Shelby GT classic which is a real muscle car – a fact he bragged about to his dad. We have taken to teasing him about some of his expressions but he’s a real sport and a champ in his own ways.
We have thoroughly enjoyed having Meg and Zack around. For the first time since we moved into our home about 2.5 years ago, the bath has been used regularly and while the sight takes some getting used to, the cluttered and well used bathroom is a wonderful sight to behold. It is a testament to a house brimming with life.
When I got Zack his toy Shelby, I also got Meg a bubbles set. We all got home that arvo and went out to the lawn blowing bubbles for Scruffi to run around to chase. I grabbed a camera to capture the moments and Ben, the proud father of these 2 little people, went one better and grabbed his humungous SLR version. What a moment to savour. Kiddo too was enjoying it. In fact part of the great experience of having them with us is to see how happy Kiddo is playing host and big-sister cousin to them. It is obvious she too loves having them around.
